Rant to Men: A Lesson About Women and Bras

Before I begin, I know that some men reading this will understand what i'm talking about.  I was introduced to Buzznet by freakpower, an extremely cool and compassionate dude, so I would guess that people who have befriended him online might be similar to him, and don't need this lesson.  But a lot of guys need it so Here I Go:

Woman Not Wearing A Bra DOES NOT EQUAL Woman Wanting Sex.

I am so sick of having to wear a fucking bra because if I don't, men will think that i'm trying to show off my boobs.

Do you know how freaking hot it is in North Carolina, Men?  Do you know how hot it is to wear a sportsbra in these conditions?  It's very hot, and it restricts air flow.

I don't wear underwire bras because they HURT.

I wish I could go out in public without a bra on and guys wouldn't look at me like I was a slut, or look at me like I wanna be looked at.  I just want to be fucking comfortable!

So screw off, you men who think that a woman without a bra is lookin for something.  Cuz a lot of us don't want your attention, thank you!

And that is all.

I'm Cool Again with Adbusters.

Okay, so I love the idea of Adbusters. (www.adbusters.org)

As soon as i started living without a tv, i got the point, quite clearly.

But I've been having a problem with the fact that they have these Blackspot sneakers for sale, and they're supposed to represent something (I'm not sure what) but they ADvertise them on their site and in their magazine, and, obviously, it's a bit of a mixed message. (to be polite)

So I wrote the editor.  I got a response within 8 hours.  And her email didn't completely explain it to me, and I still don't like that they sell the sneakers, but i thought, how freakin cool?  I thought it very respectful that I was acknowledged.  I don't get that feeling from any mainstream media outlet for sure.  (in fact, i i live on a different planet from mainstream media but that's for another time.)

Check out their webpage if you've never heard.

Fair

fairness...you know that childhood concept...that's why i sympathize with almost every nation/group the U.S. gv't hates.  because it's not fair that we have but they don't have.  and yes, i mean nuclear weapons too.  i don't understand why we're allowed to have them and they aren't.  well, no, i understand why, they would supposedly blow us up.  but isn't that why they're so persistent with whatever aims they have that the U.S. doesn't like?  cuz they're scared that we're gonna blow 'em up?

it's just not fair.  i don't wanna get blown up, but it's not fair that i don't have to worry about it like they do.

Power of Pride Bumper Stickers

I just recently moved from Santa Barbara, CA to Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  I thought I'd be prepared for what I saw.  I wasn't.  And one thing that drives me mad are those bumper stickers that have the American flag on 'em along with the words "Power of Pride".

The AMERICAN FLAG and POWER OF PRIDE.  WOAH.  WOAH AGAIN.

Lemme suspend disbelief for a sec and be optimistic.  There's gotta be folks who put those stickers on their cars immediately after 9/11/01.  Maybe some of 'em are lazy like me and wanna take a bumper sticker off their car but it takes awhile so they haven't done it yet.  Or maybe they're so drunk or stoned when they drive that they forget that it's there.  Or maybe when the stickers were printed they were made extra special with a superduper epoxy to render the sticker impossible to remove after application.  Now this last one sounds like a conspiracy theory and I ain't into those so let's be real.

With the state of the world as it is today, August 9th, 2006, combining the American flag with "Power of Pride" epitomizes why the world hates us.  I'm sure to say it again: Dear World, I'm sorry.  I am really, really, really sorry.  World, I know America wants to buy you, rape you, and spit you out.  I know the American administration conducts phony foreign policy.  I am sickened that there are dead people all over Lebanon, thirsty, hungry, wounded people all over Lebanon-- because of U.S. pride (Israel is apparently our adopted 51st state, but the paperwork is messy so they haven't completed it yet.)

Israel started bombing Lebanon because 2 Israeli soldiers were kidnapped by Hizbollah, a militia AND a political party holding a minority of seats in the Lebanese government.

The most recent statistic (August 2004) I could find for the number of Palestinians in Israeli prisons is 7,500. (www.palestinehistory.com/prison01.htm )  If you think I'm making this up, google "number of Palestinians in Israeli prisons".  I've never seen google link me to what it refers to as "scholarly"articles, but that will be the first result of your web search.

2 vs. 7,500

And Lebanon is now in ruins.  As of this second, Israel is still bombing.  Baghdad has probably blown up during the time I've written this journal.

Pride is dangerous.  You know it from your own experience.

So, to those folks who still post "Power of Pride" bumper stickers on their cars: wake up and look at the bloodshed.

I want a bumper sticker with the American flag on it.  And I want it to say: Dear World, I'm sorry.

Iraq is in Civil War

In a NYT op-ed published 7/23/06, Nicholas Sambanis defines civil wars as "armed conflicts between the government of a sovereign state and domestic political groups mounting effective resistance in relatively continuous fighting that causes high numbers of deaths.  This broad definition does not always distinguish civil wars from other forms of political violence, so we often use somewhat abitrary criteria, like different thresholds of annual deaths, to sort out cases.  Depending on the criteria used, there have been about 100 to 150 civil wars since 1945."

Sambanis goes on to write that "the insurgency [my comment: I hate that word; let's all sing a song together called "Western Media Spin Machine"!  I don't think it's been written yet but I give all rights to the use of the title to whoever can create it!] started while Iraq was under foreign occupation, but it intensified since the handoff of sovereignty.  The insurgents have been fighting continuously, violence affects all sides and there have been more than 30,000 civilian and military deaths [my comment: i highly doubt the Iraqi toll is that low], dwarfing the median number of 18,000 deaths for all civil wars since 1945."

Later on, "Two failures [of the United States'] are worth noting.  First, a large literature on contentious politics has shown that violent opposition groups gain legitimacy and public support when the state uses indiscriminate violence or abuses civilians.  This is precisely what has happened in Iraq, with recent reports of civilian abuses by the coalition.

Second, civil war studies have shown that insurgencies grow into large wars when insurgents receive external assistance.  The American-led coalition simply has not had the manpower to quarantine those Iraqis who have reportedly received assistance from neighboring countries and international terrorist entities."

Regarding this second proposed failure, what about the U.S.???  It ain't just Iran!!!  WE, AMERICA our providing assistance to the Iraqi army, a "group" that is so messed up that it's not trusted unless an American soldier is with its "members".  The Sunnis want us to stay now, because they are under the greatest threat being the minority group.

Glaring also is the obvious fact completely ignored by the idiots who run our governmnet that Iraq was never conducive to democracy in the first place.  Oh, oops I'm sorry, we're there for WMD's.  Oh wait, no, to topple an awful dictator (who must be worse than Kim Jong Il if we're so focusing on Iraq).  Oh no, i was right, we're there to make a democracy.  I get so confused sometimes!

So.  We need to get outta there.  I don't know how, but let's look for all the shades between black and white that politicians ignore.  The more this administration manipulates the face and innards of the Middle East, the more I'm scared I'm gonna see a nuclear bomb, or a full-scale invasion of America, in my lifetime.
